Courtney completed her PhD in July last year, focusing on coral-dwelling gobies (Genus Gobiodon) and their relationship with Acropora corals. Her research included three months at One Tree Island on the Great Barrier Reef, where she named species, developed a field guide covering 26 species, and conducted aquaria experiments on coral preferences. She also illustrated her own work and has goby-themed merchandise available. Courtney has also conducted extensive research on rock pools and rocky shores along the south-east coast, including Sydney Harbour.
