About the URG
The URG dive club was established in 1955 and boasts a significant history, particularly in the area of underwater research. Many of the URG club members are experienced scuba divers however, anyone with an Open Water Scuba Diving Certification and their own scuba equipment is welcome to join. Our members are interested in a range of underwater activities, including marine biology, underwater photography, wrecks and conservation.
Dive Boat
The URG dive boat is a Star 5.9m single hull, aluminium vessel, capable of carrying up to 8 divers and a non-diving skipper. The boat carries a mermaid line, cross-over line, bars and a line for safety stops, and a hooker style decompression setup for safety on deep and wreck dives. The boat carries oxygen and a large oxy-viva kit suitable for multiple divers.

Dive Sites
The club has a regular scuba dive schedule in Sydney and surrounds. And from time to time, we also organise dive trips within Australia and overseas. Members can book onto a dive by contacting the Convenor for that dive, as listed in the Dive Schedule. As a URG club member, you can also suggest the sites you would like to dive.
Research
The URG provides a unique opportunity for members to be involved in research programs and surveys. These research programs are "community based" which means that whilst they adhere to the basic principles for conducting scientific research, we adopt research projects and designs which are simple, pragmatic, and allow for a broad range of people to be involved. There are research roles for underwater photographers, data recorders, water and substrate sample collecting, equipment and boat handling.
